Layers and layer filters

Precise Layer control is critical to using Civil 3D efficiently.

• From the perspective of designing in model space, we need the ability to isolate and hide objects to assess options.
• From the perspective of drawing production, we need the ability to control visibility of specific elements in specific viewports.

 For this to work properly, all styles must adhere to a standard. This facilitates the use of layer filters to achieve these tasks efficiently.

The 2010 ANZ country kit has this structure incorporated to all styles with the layer filters set up so the basic tasks of display management can eb performed with little or no fuss.

Design Criteria.

• Civil 3D allows Design Criteria configuration to enable more efficient design.
• The 2010 ANZ Country Kit contains samples for Australia and New Zealand. These will be enhanced and expanded - see the 'updates' tab for details on this.

Intersection Defaults

The intersection wizard is the new showcase feature in Civil 3D 2010.

To harness the tool effectively, the ANZ Country Kit includes:

• Automatic Alignments defaulting to Left hand Drive Kerb Returns
• Sensible default offsets and radii.
• Assembly Sets with a footpath and without. (Updates to these will be available soon with enhancements and additions)

Styles and the ANZ Country Kit

Styles are the heart of the software. When they are configured correctly (with a proper layer convention), the design process can really be streamlined.

With this in mind, styles have been configured in the template and the command settings reference sensible defaults.

Quantity Takeoff and the ANZ Country Kit

One of the new and interesting features in the 2010 release of Civil 3D is the Quantity Takeoff (QTO) Manager. This allows us to analyse material quantities by assigning 'pay items'.

A pay item is a specific unit of work for which a price is provided and a contractor is paid while a highway is under construction.

E.G. - Excavation for open drains..
When the job is designed, the contractors will have to dig the excavation for the open drains. This will have a cost associated, based off the volume of material excavated. The local government or DOT will have a specific code to tag this so that overall costs can be categorised and analysed.

The ANZ Country Kit installs sample QTO criteria based off the RTA Standards in NSW. These can be used to produce the report below, either in HTML format or imported to Excel or as a table in AutoCAD.

The ANZ Content Kit on the installation DVD has a vast range of options but there is room for many more. We have only shown some of the highlights here - to get a full demo or workshop on the kit, please contact us.

We will be forming updates to the Kit during the year to enhance the existing styles and components as well as addressing anything that may have been left out. These will be posted on the AutoDesk website with a proper installation routines. Details will be posted here as the updates become available.
