Session DetailArchitectural Building Information Modeling: Transferring Information into the Facilities Management/Asset Management Process.

Session Title:

Architectural Building Information Modeling: Transferring Information into the Facilities Management/Asset Management Process

Abstract:

As the architectural industry accelerates towards the use of building information modeling (BIM), facilities and asset management systems are still stuck receiving 2D “dumb” documents from which to (re)work. This session examines how the information captured in the architectural BIM process can be retained and transferred into the facilities management/asset management process. Using live examples of FM data within Revit, as well as the results of research conducted with university FM departments in the Asia/Pacific region, we’ll see the future of data collection, collation, storage, and reuse in the project life cycle -- from design concept to retirement planning.

Target Audience FM professionals who want to streamline information collection and collation
Key Topics Covered

- Retain information previously lost during transfer from the AEC industry

- Recognize and capitalize on the parametric nature of BIM tools

- Know what to demand of the architect

- Utilize BIM tools directly within the facilities management process
